A Formal Complaint

Tue Mar 4, 2008, 10:32 PM
I am deeply and utterly disgusted by the random event for round two of :icongreenfrostfire:'s BRR tournament.

What is the prompt, you ask?
I quote, in verbatim:
Byako Random Event
round two: pervy fangirl space warriors riding polar bears while wielding stoves who wear mucklucks have become obsessed with you
(you as in the character you entered)

Now this event would be perfectly fine if it wasn't for one word: "pervy."

As you all know, or will know by the end of this entry, I have high moral standards. When first making the plunge into the art world, I made a firm decision that I would be different from the rest. No revealing clothing. No fanservice girls sporting bikinis. No sex. Hell, no relationships. Sam and Cad may be womanizers, but look what happens to them--Cad can never get a girlfriend and Sam's last date shot him (just missing his heart). I planned from the start to keep all my stories clean and I intend to keep it this way. I'll be damned if I have to throw aside my code of ethics just for some stupid comic entry for a contest.

I ask--no, I demand that the prompt be altered. All I'm asking is for the removal of the word "pervy." It is not that hard just to remove a single word. Just highlight the damned thing and press the backspace key. It's not like I'm asking to change the whole event or eliminate it completely.

I will not stoop to such a level that violates my morals just because three judges want to see space girls in bikinis or whatever voluptuous images they expect to see.

EDIT: The excuses :icongreenfrostfire: gives for not being able to change the prompt are as follows--

Jasae (2008/03/04 20:51:03): theres also diana-hnd who was screaming in apreciation
Jasae (2008/03/04 20:52:11): kenty i cant a number of people have already begun scripting and a few have started drawing ^_^;
Jasae (2008/03/04 20:52:33): besides this was voted on and i can garantee at least three other people knew about it before hand

Not to pick on diana, but this is what Jasae considered to be "screaming in appreciation".

Who voted on this event? The judges? Or Jasae, himself, and himself? I demand to see proof of this "voting."

Thank you, Kenton. Adding some fiber to the inner workings of Jasea's BRR

I agree with you totally. Even though I'm not in the competition at all. It's just nice to see artists who have standards.

EPIC FAILURE

When everyday, run-of-the-mill failure just isn't good enough.

I whole heartedly agree and after talking with the green one, I hope something is done about it soon.

You still have to learn that theres everything in the world you live.
And by everything I mean, EVERYTHING.
I mean... hell, each one has his own moral line, just try to respect it, play your own cards, win your way.

Theres nothing wrong with a hot chick in bikini... is it? omg, the world is coming to an end.

Mars is now R(ing).I.P.

I understand that.

But Jasae is trying to force the idea on all the contestants against their will.

Such portrayals of women are degrading and [insert feminist argument].

I really respect your point of view. We shouldn't be pressed against doing what we think is right.

However, I do think that the things listed in the random event are not to be taken word by word. I agree with you that I'm not going to draw a girl with revealing clothing, because I think is wrong. (plus I would screw up on her proportions) however, I'm drawing someone who is somewhat perverted... in the context of not going against what I think is right.

I think you could have someone in a 18th century garment and still make it look perv. without having to strip the character down.

It all depends on the dialogue and circumstances of the character. At least that's what I think, I might be completely wrong though.

But still, if you think this shouldn't be allowed in the Round Robin. You have my full support.

Is a contest, what did you expect?
If you want a "Do whatevery you want" contest
then do it yourself.
You can do it, cant you?

I have been presented by that idea of a random event before the second round started - and I commented that it would be challenging.

Since the random event is somewhat risque, I have decided to make my "completeness" category (since that one handles the compliance to the random event itself) more considerate to whatever the entrants interpret the random event.

I have no intention of making/ suggesting/ coercing Jasae to drop the "pervy" word, nor do I support his actions. Jasae runs the tourney and I think the final decisions and events are his.

The entrants control their submissions, control the panes - there are other ways to describe and visualize "pervy", don't just restrict yourselves to The Emperor's Clothes, which I think is the easiest way to describe it.
